Fathers 4 Justice Canada - May 23/09 - International Hyack Parade - New Westminster BC - Event

May 23/09, Saturday, Fathers 4 Justice Canada participate for the first time in the International Hyack Parade in New Westminster BC.
It was a beautiful day for a parade, awesome BC sunshine, 150 colorful floats, and much cheer to go around. Vancouver and Victoria team
members once more worked together to make this parade another successful event in spite of strict conditions placed upon us to participate
in this annual family event. Many thanks to all those who helped in making this another opportunity to help spread our message of equality.
Parade participants were to gather at 8:00 am in the marshaling area after having earlier gone to the check in centre to receive there
designated number. Fathers 4 Justice Canada was graciously allowed to sit at the back of the bus. No seriously, lol, we were placed dead last
of 150 floats. Needless to say after 5 hours of waiting in the blazing heat and monkey suits team members saw a glimmer of hope and a sign
of life. We were soon on our way and our spirits renewed. The parade route took us through downtown New Westminster with many excited
children and appreciative adults, all somewhat surprised to discover all of their favorite superheroes upon one float at the very back of the
parade and welcomed us with much cheer which lifted our spirits higher. We were very well received by the tens of thousands of spectators
who attended. Not once did we exit our float during the course of the parade to personally greet the children that were reaching out to us as we
were instructed and the Director of the parade can vouch for us on that as he followed up the rear to signal the ending of the event.
Superheroes upon our float this year included - Judge Kangaroo, Cat Woman, Victoria Spiderman, BC Hulk , Wonder Woman , Green
Lantern, V, Metropolis Superman, Burnaby Batman, Iron Man, Super Dog, as well as 5 everyday superheroes.
In spite of hurdles placed before us we were able to collectively focus on our greater goal, being thankful that we were allowed to at least be
able to sit on the bus. Throughout the course of the event we had one minor incident that involved a fine police officer pulling up along side of
us with lights on encouraging us to move quicker as we had fallen way behind, lol. Other than that one minor miss hap we were very well
behaved and graciously thank the city of New Westminster for their change of heart by allowing us to participate. We hope to be invited back
next year as it truly was a lot of fun.
