June 13/08 (Friday) - Fathers4Justice Canada - Regina Saskatchewan team members in solidarity with our brothers in the UK participate in action to highlight the struggles parents often face when attempting to remain in an active role in their children's lives after the break up of a relationship.
Todays Fathers Day rally went ahead as scheduled. Regina Sask team members gathered in front of the Court House on Victoria Ave where they have become regular visitors and rallies a regular occurrence. Fortunately the weather cooperated and everyone that attended was in good spirits.
Batman (Kevin Gwillim) and Robin (Gene Rogers) greeted the lunchtime traffic and pedestrians alike with their 'WELCOME TO F4J COUNTRY' banner. The smiling Superheroes message was acknowledged by many honking motorists and thumbs up gestures. Their presence also got the attention of the many pedestrians in the Regina downtown core. It was also difficult not to notice that they also got the attention of the Court House staff who appeared amused by their presence (or tights). Although the media chose not to show, they did notice several cell phone cameras that caught the moment to share with their friends and family.
Considering the absence of any media or security, the Superheroes decided to move to higher ground to a conveniently parked RV. This would constitute the highest level action in Saskatchewan to date. The bar has been raised. Although they were very much noticed by the public, this move to higher ground failed to generate a media frenzy or closure of the downtown streets by police. It is painfully apparent that the media is less concerned with a child's right to have a meaningful relationship with both parents than it is with a 'cat in the tree' story.
With these thoughts, experiences, and with the encouragement of the public, Batman and Robin descended and promptly returned to their Bat cave to ponder and plan the future of the Queen City.
